“Fear of Disappointing God”

 

 

  1. Have you made a mistake or been embarrassed about something that you are reminded of daily?  Do you live with a regret that you remember often?

  • What do you do to overcome a pattern of dwelling on past failures?

  1. When Jesus healed the paralytic an in Matthew 9, he didn’t simply heal the man’s legs, he gave him hope when he announced that his sins were forgiven.  Can real healing occur without forgiveness?

  2. What is your definition of sin?  Is it possible that we can only find true courage when the problem of sin is solved?

  3. In the garden of Eden, the serpent tempted Eve. He said that God was unable to delver what she needed.  Eve quit trusting God and took matters into her own hands.   How did fear inform Eve’s actions?

  • Have you ever tried to take something into your own hands out of fear?

  1. What was Adam and Eve’s first response to their sin?  Why?

  2. Why do we hide?  What emotion or need does hiding satisfy?  What would contact with God truly satisfy?

  3. What do you believe is the Satan’s role in our fear of disappointing God?

  4. What role does faith play in accepting God’s perfect love?

  5. There are two kinds of shame

  1. Legitimate shame

  2. Illegitimate shame

  • What is the difference?
